Phoenix Award presented to the Green Man, Mursley
23rd of April saw presentation of the Branch's Phoenix Award to the Green Man in Mursley.
Pubs that close for 12 months or more often don't reopen, so the Branch gives its Phoenix Award to pubs that reopen after they've been closed for 12 months or more.
The Green Man was closed for two years and the community tried to buy it. Although they were unsuccessful, several locals wre able to buy it and others helped get it into shape. It then arose from the metaphorical ashes of its predecessor and has now been open for nearly two years, is providing the village with a "proper village pub" and is so successful, it already appears in the 2025 Good Beer Guide.
The award is being presented to Lewis (the publican) and Andrew (who was heavily involved in the refurb and reopening.):
